MAYOR PRO TEM AND MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL.

I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU, OUR METROPOLITAN COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO YOU TODAY.

SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MY ADMINISTRATION, IT HAS BEEN A TOP PRIORITY TO DEVELOP INNOVATIVE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS.

AND THESE PARTNERSHIPS ARE ALLOWING OUR CITY PARISH GOVERNMENT TO WORK HAND IN HAND WITH OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND OTHER COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS A NUMBER OF OUR MOST CHALLENGING PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS OF DISINVESTMENT.

WE'VE SEEN THIS ACROSS PROJECTS SUCH AS THE REOPENING OF HOW PLACE MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING THE REIMAGINING A PLANK ROAD AND OUR RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC.

JUST TO NAME A FEW THROUGH OUR COLLABORATION, WE HAVE SEEN SUCCESSES THAT HAVE PROVEN TO BE CRITICAL TO THE GROWTH AND WELFARE OF OUR CITIZENS.

WITH THAT BEING SAID, I AM PROUD TO STAND HERE AND FULLY SUPPORT THE REZONING OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FORMER QUARTANA MALL, A MALL THAT HAS UNDOUBTEDLY IMPACTED ALL OF US IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

OVER THE PAST 45 YEARS, THIS GENERATIONAL PROJECT WILL CREATE 1000 NEW JOBS FOR OUR AREA RESIDENTS AND TODAY'S REZONING OF CORTEN AMAL WILL BE CRITICAL TO MOVING THIS PROJECT FORWARD.

I ASKED FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AS WE LOOK TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF BATON ROUGE, ONE WHERE OUR RESIDENTS HAVE INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES OR SUCCESS.

AND YOU KNOW, IT SAID WHEN QUARTANA BUILT AND SAT DORMANT FOR SO LONG AND EVERYTHING, AND I WAS GLAD TO SEE

IT BROUGHT BACK INTO COMMERCE AND WHAT HAVE YOU.

UM, AND THEN OF COURSE GROWING UP IN COURT, TANA BALL BACK THEN YOUR PARENTS COULD DROP YOU OFF AND YOU'RE ON THEM ALL THE WHOLE DAY AT EVERYTHING.

AND I WORKED THERE, MY FIRST JOB WAS AT QUARTANA MALL.

UM, BUT TO SEE, YOU KNOW, TO SEE IT GO DOWN LIKE IT DID, AND THEN TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY, NOT ONLY FOR WHAT IS POSSIBLY GOING THERE, BUT IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THAT AREA OF BATON ROUGE TO REVITALIZE, TO REGROW AND SO MANY OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO LOOK AT, NOT JUST FOR THAT ONE SITE, BUT AROUND THAT AREA.

SO I WOULD HOPE THAT Y'ALL WOULD JOIN ME IN VOTING FOR YES.

AND SUPPORTING THEM.

IT WAS MYSELF AND MY FRIENDS WHO NAMED THAT AREA MALL CITY BACK IN THE EIGHTIES, BUT WE ALWAYS WANTED TO GET TO THE BIG MALL.

SO WE ALWAYS WOULD CATCH THE BUS TO QUARTANA MALL ON SATURDAYS.

AND AS YOU SAID, COUNCIL MEMBER MOBILE, STAY THERE ALL DAY.

UH, YOU KNOW, DOING WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE DO IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL.

SO IT IS EXTREMELY IT'S BITTERSWEET.

IT'S EXTREMELY BITTER TO SEE SUCH A LARGE PART OF MY YOUTH GO AWAY, BUT I'M OVERLY EXCITED ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY THAT IS COMING TO THAT SPACE.

AND I'M SO GLAD THERE ARE COMPANIES WHO ARE WILLING TO INVEST IN OUR GREAT CITY AND WANT TO THANK THE MAYOR AND HER TEAM FOR DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB OF RECRUITING, UH, ORGANIZATIONS, COMPANIES LIKE THIS TO COME TO OUR CITY AND DO DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS LIKE THIS ONE, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL, NOT JUST FOR THE AREA, BUT FOR THE ENTIRE REGION.

AND SO I'M EXTREMELY EXCITED.
