HE ALSO SERVES AS A MEMBER OF THE ROADWAY BINGO BAND. HE IS CURRENTLY HAS A CUMULATIVE GPA OF 3.0 UPON GRADUATION IN SCHOOL YEAR, 2023. HE PLANS TO JOIN THE UNITED STATES ARMY ARMY RESERVE OR NATIONAL GUARD. THEN HE PLANS TO ATTEND ONE OF THE LOCAL COLLEGES AND MAJOR IN EDUCATION. HIS DREAMS AND GOALS ARE TO RETURN AND BECOME A LOCAL PRINCIPAL. AND ONE OF THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS IN EBR, HE WOULD LIKE TO FURTHER HIS MEMBERSHIP IN ROTC AND RECEIVE A COMMISSION AS A FIRST LIEUTENANT IN THE ARMY CORPS. I DON'T KNOW THAT THAT WAS A JOB, BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT I HAD APPROACHED IS ANYTHING BUT A JOB OF TRYING TO BUILD A SYSTEM THAT WAS GOING TO BE FINANCIALLY SUSTAINABLE, TO HAVE FACILITIES THAT WERE REASONABLE FOR THE KIDS IN TERMS OF BUSES THAT WERE DECRYPTED AND IN TERMS OF SCHOOLS THAT WERE FALLING DOWN. AND, UM, SO I WORKED VERY HARD ON IN SCHOOL BOARD SO IT WAS MY HONOR AND PRIVILEGE TO CALL ROGER, MY FRIEND AND SCHOOL BOARD COLLEAGUE. I JOINED IN 2001 AND WE WERE IN VERY, VERY MEANINGFUL TIMES FOR OUR COMMUNITY. I REMEMBER WALKING INTO THE GROUP, WHICH INCLUDED THE FATHERS OF TWO GREAT FRIENDS FROM MY BROADMORE HIGH SCHOOL DAYS, BILL BLACK AND HIS DAUGHTER, GINGER GINGER. AND I WENT TO SCHOOL TOGETHER AND ROGER MOSER AND PHIL WHO'S IN THE AUDIENCE TONIGHT. AND I WERE AT BROADMORE HIGH SCHOOL TOGETHER AS WELL. ROGER LED SUCH A MEANINGFUL LIFE. HE, HE PASSED PEACEFULLY AT THE AGE OF 92 ON FEBRUARY 7TH. AND I'D LIKE TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY, APRIL 9TH AND THE BROADMORE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SANCTUARY ON MOLLY LEE DRIVE IN BATON ROUGE. ROGER ATTENDED PURDUE UNIVERSITY AND GRADUATED WITH A DEGREE IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING IN 1951 WHILE AT PURDUE, ROGER LEARNED TO FLY RETIRED ARMY TRAINING GLIDERS. WHEN HE JOINED THE GLIDER CLUB, WHICH WAS FORMED AS WORLD WAR TWO, SOLDIERS RETURNED TO SCHOOL. AND THAT PARKS MY, UM, MEMORY OF HOW ACTIVE AND ATHLETIC ROGER WAS THROUGH OUT HIS DAYS. HE WAS, UM, HE, HE ENJOYED SNOW SKIING, PLAYING TENNIS. I WAS ALWAYS, UH, SO IMPRESSED BY HIS ABILITY TO KEEP GOING. AND HE CERTAINLY DID. UM, HE JOINED ETHYL CORPORATION AND MOVED TO BATON ROUGE WHERE HE MET HIS WIFE. MARSHA [00:10:02] MARSHA WAS ALSO A VERY, VERY DEAR DEAR KIND WOMAN WHO WAS ALSO VERY INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY SERVICE. AND WE JUST LOST HER ABOUT FIVE MONTHS AGO. AND I CAN TELL YOU, MARSHA WAS A DELIGHT IF WHENEVER WE RAN INTO EACH OTHER, SHE JUST LIT UP AND WE WERE BOTH SO HAPPY TO SEE EACH OTHER. UM, WE, WE ROGER AND I SERVED AT A TIME WHEN WE WERE MOVING THROUGH THE, UH, GAINING UNITARY STATUS IN FEDERAL COURT WITH OUR DESEGREGATION TRIAL. AND THOSE WERE TIMES WHEN WE HAD TO PUT EVERYTHING ELSE ASIDE AND REPORT HIM TO THE, TO THE, UM, FEDERAL COURTHOUSE. AND WE HAD TO RUSH, RUSH, RUSH TO WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. AND SO WE LEARNED A LOT OF PATIENCE AND, AND REALLY HAD A LOT OF TIME TOGETHER AS A UNIT, AS OUR SCHOOL BOARD. AND SO WE REALLY GOT TO KNOW EACH OTHER EACH OTHER'S FAMILIES AND IT WAS, IT WAS A VERY MEANINGFUL TIME FOR OUR COMMUNITY. UM, ROGER SERVED ON BOARDS ON THE BOARDS OF BATON ROUGE, TEACH FOR AMERICA BATON ROUGE, HEALTH CENTERS IN SCHOOLS, GOVERNOR BLANCO'S BLUE RIBBON COMMISSION FOR EDUCATION EXCELLENCE, GOVERNOR ROMER'S TRANSITION ADVISORY PANEL ON ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION BOARD, CHAIRMAN OF THE GREATER BATON ROUGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND BOARD CHAIRMAN OF THE ISTROUMA AREA, COUNCIL BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, WHICH AWARDED HIM THE SILVER BEAVER. ROGER WAS RECRUITED TO RUN FOR THE SCHOOL IN 1994. AND HE WAS ELECTED AND SERVED THREE TIMES TERMS. SO 12 YEARS BEGINNING IN 1995, HE SERVED AS OUR BOARD PRESIDENT OR VICE-PRESIDENT 10 OF HIS 12 YEARS. UM, HE WAS A LIFETIME, A LIFELONG LEARNER AND AN AVID READER. HE LOVED LIFE AND HE LOVED TO TRAVEL. HE, UH, WAS PROCEEDED, AS I SAID IN DEATH, BY HIS WIFE, MARCIA. AND WE KNOW THAT THEY HAVE JOINED ONE ANOTHER AGAIN, THEY HAD A VERY LONG AND FAITHFUL MARRIAGE, UM, OF 69 YEARS. AND THAT I REMEMBER JUST BEING SO IMPRESSED BY THE KIND OF MAN THAT WOULD TREAT HIS WIFE WAS SUCH A RESPECT AND VICE-VERSA, AND, UM, I JUST CAN'T SAY ENOUGH AND I HOPE YOU ALL WILL JOIN ME IN HONORING AND PAYING RESPECT TO OUR LEADER. SO THAT'S THE DEDICATION HE PUT INTO THIS FOR 12 YEARS. AND, UH, IT WAS AN HONOR FOR HIM TO DO IT IN IT. UH, THE LAST TIME I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO SEE HIM WAS ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO AT LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE WE WERE WALKING THE SCHOOL, UM, BEFORE HE BECAME UNABLE TO WALK. UM, AND SO FAST FORWARD TO LAST YEAR, AND THIS YEAR THEY HAVE SPONSORED OUR TAKE THE LEAD LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, AND THAT HAS BEEN AT GLENOAKS HIGH, AND IT'S BEEN A SERIES OF WORKSHOPS THAT WE HOST EVERY FRIDAY, UM, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS. THEY LEARN TO SPEAK WITH CONFIDENCE. THEY LEARN TO ASSERT THEMSELVES WITH PIES AND GRAZE, AND THEY LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT THE POSITIONS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM. SINCE THAT TIME, OUR COUNTRY COMMEMORATES AND CELEBRATES THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS ANNUALLY DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY. WHEREAS THE THEME OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH FOR 2022 FOCUSES ON THE DEEP COMMITMENT TO ADVANCING EQUITY, JUSTICE, ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY FOR AFRICAN-AMERICANS, AS WE CONTINUE TO STRIVE FOR OUR COUNTRY'S FOUNDING PLEDGE.
